My life has taken me in many directions. Prompted by my father I did a degree in languages. Prompted by my heart I followed a passion for dance and after graduating I performed and taught dance. During this time I came across the Alexander Technique and discovered a remarkable skill for life, not to mention improved ease in dance. It was the best education (from the Latin educare - to draw out) I had received to date. I switched to teaching this and have been doing so since 2000.
During that time I have worked with people from all walks of life who were experiencing a wide variety of problems: office workers suffering from repetitive strain injury (RSI); people recovering from broken bones with a resulting lack of confidence; a businessman needing more vocal self-assurance; those affected by lower back pain, including a doctor; adults and teenagers with a variety of postural problems; singers with breathing troubles; horse riders; and a wide variety of musicians with various problems, including RSI, ranging from guitarists and French horn players to pianists and flautists, as well as students studying at The Guildford School of Acting. I also participated in the A-Team back pain trial carried out by the University of Southampton.
I was then introduced to BodyTalk, a healing system honouring the interconnected dynamics of the body. I came to study BodyTalk Fundamentals in 2012 and was initially highly sceptical and questioning (this was encouraged by the instructors), but gradually came to understand the benefits of it. It leads to deeper self-awareness and thus furthers healing on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. I’d never suffered any particular or grave physical symptoms but nevertheless found there was healing (making whole) possible on other levels. Finally convinced I qualified as a BodyTalk Practitioner in 2015. It is an ongoing fascinating journey working with people who have the courage to allow things to change and shift. I continue to receive sessions for myself and every month there is a local meeting for BodyTalkers and we work on each other.
Latterly I was guided by a dear friend to listen to Eileen McKusick on YouTube and was introduced to Biofield Tuning, another amazing healing system. This deals with the electro-magnetic field surrounding the body which stores information about our history. Any knocks we’ve experienced throughout our life show up as static and can prevent total freedom in the present. The clearer the field, the lighter and easier life becomes. The first practitioners for this were available in the UK in 2017. I qualified in May 2019 and continue to exchange sessions with a colleague to ‘stay tuned’.
I always used to ask my head, now I try to ask my heart and my body. They have the wisdom. Look at our language: heartfelt, heart of gold, spine chilling, gut instinct, blood curdling, turned my stomach, hands on, brainwave. Our emotions, our thoughts affect our health. Let’s become conscious of them.
